THE FCOC BUILDING DREAMS POST SECONDARY & VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

The Dollars for Scholars Scholarship awarded through The Fremont Chamber of Commerce will be available online on January 9th, 2023. There are two different award categories. One is for high school seniors graduating this year with plans to attend an accredited community or any 2 or 4 year college in the fall. The second award is open to any student attending or planning to attend a U.S. accredited vocational or trade school, who is 18 years of age or older, regardless of high school graduation status. The amount of the scholarship(s) is dependent upon the amount of qualified submitters. Awards are available to students of Fremont and Newark, within the state of California. The award selection is based on a combination of essay responses, need, and merit.

If a specific donor or endowed fund is able to provide more scholarship dollars, multiple recipients and/or renewable awards will be discussed as an option. The chapter will remain open to larger size awards upon request of donor. Funds available will be directed on the students' behalf to their accredited post-secondary institution within the calendar year of the award. Awards will be presented to recipients (i.e., May awards night). Award checks made payable to the institution will be made directly to the institution within the calendar year of the award.

Any student postponing college attendance due to personal circumstances or military service may have up to 1 year to use their award, provided the student properly notifies the chapter President or Treasurer by the deadline for submitting post award forms. If notice is not given, the request will be handled at the discretion of the board. The 1-year deadline may be extended, at the discretion of the board, due to financial need or military service. If funds are not used within 1 year, and no extension has been granted, the award may be retained by the chapter and/or awarded to another student.  Awards may also be held to accommodate adjustments to the Financial Aid Package, if the chapter is properly notified.
